Founded in 1956 and located in Southwest Houston, St John’s Presbyterian Church serves as a destination for people from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds to worship.

St John’s had a separate, static site and a few blogs on popular free blog sites. They wanted to freshen and modernize the look of their web site, bring all of their blogs together, and create a hub for current church members to access and disseminate information and for people interested in the church to be able to easily access information about the church and the church family.

The requirements for this project were as follows:

• new design for webiste
• incorporation of multiple blogs into one
• incorporation of calendar
• ability for users to edit content
• ability to host and offer audio recordings of sermons

Utilizing best of breed open source content management system, we were able to design and deploy a custom dynamic website, with a unique look and feel.

That’s when Reggie teamed up with Lou Congelio, founder and Chief Creative Officer of StanandLou Advertising in Houston, TX.

Reggie approached Lou with a simple, yet ingenious idea. To design a t-shirt and business card campaign featuring the slogan “Just Ask.” The shirts and business cards were designed to make others feel comfortable approaching Reggie, giving him the opportunity and confidence to not only interact with total strangers, but to tell them about NF.

He wanted people to “Just Ask” about his condition – and ask they did!

The more Reggie put himself out there, the more positive responses he received from others. Now, rather than sitting in his house wondering what life was like, he started living it.

Reggie can now be seen at major Houston events all over town. The International Festival. The Art Car Parade. The Houston Roller Derby. There’s nowhere Reggie wouldn’t go. And everywhere he went; he made new friends and spread the word about NF.

With the success of his “Just Ask” movement, word spread. Others with NF wanted to follow Reggie’s example. So, with help from a handful of friends, Reggie has turned his simple idea and grassroots movement into the Just Ask Foundation – an organization dedicated to spreading awareness about NF through the people most affected by it.

It is truly amazing what a simple t-shirt and a handful of business cards can do.

I was born with neurofibromatosis, NF for short. Doctors noticed a tiny tumor on my eye, and then on my heel. Later, they found a small tumor on the roof of my mouth. Mom thought nothing of it. But when she tried to put shoes on my feet, she noticed it was more difficult to put my left shoe on than my right shoe. I’d cry when she’d try.

When I was eight months old, my aunt Madie “Sue” suggested that my mom contact the Shiners Hospital. Shiners doctors told her that I had Von Recklinghausenís disease, another name for neurofibromatosis. It is incurable; there was nothing they could do.

My mom asked, did I cause this? The doctors assured her that she was blameless. She is a carrier of the disease. She has one or two negligible tumors on her hands, symptoms of a minor case of the disorder. I am the youngest of six, and none of my brothers or sisters showed outward signs of neurofibromatosis at birth.

The first time I recognized that I was different was when my siblings and playmates made footprints in the sand. One foot, two foot, one foot, two foot. All of the other kids had footprints that were similar in size and shape but my two feet were very different.
